Teacher’s Published Romance Novels Cause Uproar

English teacher, Judy Buranich, received negative responses when parents found out she moonlighted as a romance novelist. Buranich has taught at Midd West High School for almost 25 years and published under a pseudonym for 20 years. Parents of Middleburg, PA were outraged and feel she needs to make a choice between teaching and writing.

Should Mrs. Buranich choose between teaching and publishing romance novels?

Restoring the Original Version Dorian Gray

Nicholas Frankel, associate professor of English at Virginia Commonwealth University, edited the new uncensored version of The Picture of Dorian Gray. He feels readers in the 21st century can handle the more risqué and homoerotic passages that were revised in 1890.

Do you think critics and readers today will have the same negative response given in 1890?

I actually saw a video commentary about the teacher today. The guy had excellent points. What the teacher does in her spare time is no ones business for as long as it isn't harming the students.

Another case of people getting into other people's business. I say, good for her. What she writes in her free time is her choice. And she's published, which is more than I can say about a lot of English teachers who write in their free time!
The teacher should be allowed to pursue her writing. Additionally, I would buy a copy of the unedited Dorian Gray. I'm going to look for it now that you've turned me onto it. There isn't enough homoeroticism presented in literature and I'm sick and tired of all the white-washing and hetero-washing in movies and books.
